The Society for Fighting Pain, Israel

Pain is defined as chronic when it lasts longer than expected (usually three to six months) and may be a perpetual problem. Chronic pain, as appose to acute pain, is not merely a symptom but is an actual illness/disorder. The most updated research indicates that in Israel , one out of six of the population suffer from chronic pain. It may have a severe effect on the ability to function, physically and emotionally, and can have a negative effect on all aspects of one`s life.
The Society for Fighting Pain (SFP) was set up in 2004 in response to the growing needs of people suffering from chronic pain and their families. The SFP aims to raise awareness of chronic pain, as a separate illness. We provide support, guidance and information to pain sufferers and their families, as well as influencing policy makers to improve the standard and accessibility of treatment for chronic pain.

About Us :

The Society for Fighting Pain (SFP) was founded in March 2004 by the chairperson of the Society, Mandy (Amanda) Leighton–Bellichach, with the ongoing support and assistance of her pain specialist, Dr. Michael Gofeld who developed the SFP`s motto "Life beats pain" as well as the backing of Prof. David Niv who was murdered on the 6.2.07. The Israel Pain Society provides the SFP with ongoing advice and acts as a consulting body.
Mandy  is wheelchair bound and suffers various sorts of chronic pain in all parts of her body, due to an injury that took place more than 13 years ago, in the course of her army service. After voluntarily serving in the Knesset as a lobbyist for the advancement of the rights of people with disabilities, Leighton-Bellichach decided to expand her voluntary work and founded the SFP , in order to advance the interests of chronic pain sufferers on several levels ...
